ABSTRACT

The research study is to assess what tourist centres in Badagry is and to examine its contribution as a catalyst to increase tourism level in Lagos State. The research is also designed to assess the problems and challenges of tourists’ centre and principle guidelines on tourism. This study will also make recommendation on how to improve the effectiveness of tourism development in Badagry, Nigeria.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Badagry is often referred to as the cradle of civilization and Christianity in Nigeria. Apart from being the land of wonders, Badagry unlock the history of the slave trade era in Nigeria.

Tourist centers in Badagry is wealth for the teeming jobless in Nigeria, the industry is capable of generating billions of naira if well nurtured. Tourism site just about the attraction and facilities that we can offer, important as this are; it’s about people and particularly about the relationship between the customer and the individual providing the service. It is one of several modernism influences such as mass media, urbanization and information which significantly affect the attitude and value of people in all section of the society.

Tourist centers in Badagry is well developed, Tourism attraction needs to be developed in Badagry very well so as to engage the tourist in recreational activities to let them know how to utilize their leisure. Badagry community engaged in tourism activities.

In Nigeria at large tourism is well recognized in Badagry communities because of this there are still a lot of upcoming professional tourist and people thereby making it possible for tourism to be developed in Badagry communities and in the study of the field.

Government need to facilities and equip tourist attraction centers in Badagry with material and in the study of the field.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

History records that slave trade began in Badagry in 1473 and general prominence between 15th and 19th centuries. The growth of the field of tourisms in Badagry community has been rapid in the recent year; there is increased need to provide skilled employees to meet the needs of the tourist centers in Badagry in the future. This can only be possible if the tourist attraction centers in Badagry community attract the people in the community.

It is widely acknowledged by both practitioners and scholars that a tourist center in badagry is a critical element to sustainable tourism development in any country in other words, Nigeria cannot develop its tourist in Badagry without the community workforce.

The town of Badagry wants to enlighten the world to its history sites landscape cultural artifacts and rules of human slavery Badagry wanted to share this world heritage site with others.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE RESEARCH PROBLEM

Badagry is an historical community knows as “A home of tourist attraction”. In as much as it is given and above little adequate attention has not been accorded it in terms of show casing its tourist embodiment to the world this study intends to do.

The ancient town requires a lot of culture and financial assistance from the people of the world to transform her histories and natural resources into tourism development.

1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES

The main aim and objective of this project is to assess the various tourist attraction centers in Badagry community.

- What are the various tourist attraction centers in Badagry community?

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The research hopes that the research work will be of great benefit to Badagry community in terms of income generation in increase of tourist visitation to the attraction centers in Badagry community. It will also aid the promotion and development of the attraction and Badagry community as well. This study will also encourage the state government in providing empowerment opportunities and provision of accommodation for tourist in Badagry community.

1.6 SCOPE OF STUDY

The research work is designed to cover both Badagry and its community in Lagos state.

1.7 OPERATIONAL DEFINATION OF TERMS

Assessment: Means a process of document usually in measure able terms knowledge skills and attitude.

Tourism center: Tourist activities as traditionally defined by the tourist industry fundamentally involve the transportation and hosting of the tourism consumer in a local community.

Badagry: Is town with rich cultural dynasty is the cradle of Christianity in Nigeria.

Community: this refers to the people living in one particular area (Badagry) in people who are considered as unit because of their common interest background.
